The trailer for Invincible Season 3 recently premiered at CCXP Brazil, and fans are getting excited as the show gets closer to its release. The superhero series, inspired by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley’s Image Comics, has received a lot of praise for its first two seasons. It dives into Mark Grayson’s life, showing his struggles with his powerful Viltrumite father, Omni-Man, the dangerous multiverse villain Angstrom Levy, and other foes straight from the comics.
Now, the story gears up for an intense showdown with the invading Viltrumites, as the show brings some of the best comic storylines to life. Even though the series has rearranged and condensed certain events, there’s still a lot of Mark’s 144-issue journey left to explore. This makes you wonder how many more seasons the show will need to tell the entire story.
At Collider’s Inside Hollywood panel during the convention, hosted by Editor-in-Chief Steve Weintraub and joined by Tim Miller and Dave Wilson, Robert Kirkman talked about the plan for future Invincible seasons. The show is already confirmed for a fourth season, and there’s talk about a fifth one too. While TV shows don’t always get guaranteed runs, the series’ success on Prime Video makes it likely that they’ll keep adapting the comics as long as the team stays interested.
In a 2023 interview with Polygon, Kirkman estimated that it might take seven or eight seasons to tell the full story from the comics. However, with Season 3 approaching, he admitted those plans might change. They could adjust some storylines, making them shorter or longer to work better for the show.
As work begins on Season 4, Robert Kirkman and writer Simon Racciopa are sticking to their general plan. While they aim to follow the comics closely, Kirkman says the number of seasons could change depending on how things unfold. He shared that their current outline suggests around eight seasons but admitted it could be as few as seven or as many as ten.
He explained they might need breaks between seasons to manage production and keep everything running smoothly. Kirkman joked when asked about the ideal number of seasons, saying, “Or nine. I can be greedy.” Pulling off more seasons could be tricky, though, as it depends on keeping the talented cast and crew involved and Prime Video’s continued support.
Season 3 of Invincible will take a darker turn for Mark and his family after his intense battle with Angstrom Levy. The trailer shows Mark growing more distant from Cecil Stedman as he starts questioning Cecil’s morals. Cecil is now teaming up with D.A. Sinclair to create better ReAnimen to fight the Viltrumites, showing he’ll use any method, even shady ones, to protect the planet.
Mark, now stronger, faster, and tougher than ever, is ready to go solo and wear his iconic blue and black suit. Even though he’s standing on his own, he’ll keep fighting to protect his loved ones. Mark’s younger half-brother, Oliver, is also getting older and wants to join him as a superhero.
The Season 2 finale set up some big challenges for Mark, including a tough battle with the Viltrumites, personal struggles, and a possible relationship with Atom Eve. Fans can also expect the teased Invincible War, which involves evil versions of Mark from other universes.
