Omni-Man’s villainous turn in Invincible was so extreme that fans wondered if he could ever be redeemed. However, J.K. Simmons believes there’s still hope for his character’s hero arc in Season 3.
Simmons shared that anything is possible in Invincible, including Omni-Man completely changing his ways. The character, known as a massive threat to Earth since his true mission was revealed, has shown a lot of inner conflict.
But so far, his actions haven’t given fans much reason to believe he can be redeemed. Still, Simmons enjoys exploring the complexity of Omni-Man as the story heads into Season 3. In an interview with The Direct, he revealed they’re working on making Omni-Man more heroic, even if it seems unlikely.
You definitely can’t please all the people all the time, right? So I think, yeah, there will be some, I think, who will hail Omni-Man and/or Nolan as a hero,
he said
Simmons shared that not knowing Omni-Man’s backstory from the comics turned out to be a good thing. Since he joined the voice cast without any expectations about the story or characters, it helped him connect better with Omni-Man’s journey.
That was part of what I found interesting when I first jumped on board with this,
he said
I was one of the few people who didn’t really know the source material. So it’s all been sort of unfolding to me gradually. But you know, to me, it would have been pretty tedious to play through seasons of him just being the biggest, baddest guy on the block. And I think being able to explore some vulnerability and some self-doubt even, is really an interesting journey.

Fans who have read the comics know how Omni-Man’s story plays out. He tries to make up for his wrongdoings, but whether that’s enough for redemption is up for debate. The TV show might follow that storyline or go in a different direction. Simmons hopes the redemption arc remains a possibility.
I mean, that’s the way the world is. I love how we get to explore in this land of virtually no limitations, you know, real-life issues.
Simmons also mentioned that Nolan feels conflicted about his son Oliver wearing the Omni-Man symbol, which is now seen as a symbol of destruction.
There’s a pride, you know, there’s a puffed up chest, kind of, that’s my boy thing, But there’s also that, you know, I think I’m still the boss, and let’s see how long I can hang on to that.

Simmons is taking things step by step with Omni-Man’s storyline and admits he doesn’t know how it will end.
My approach to it hasn’t really changed a lot. It’s just always, you know, playing what the moment is that the guys are putting on paper, and it just continues to demand more of all of us,
he said.
Fans are excited as Grand Regent Thragg is expected to appear in Season 3. Based on Simmons’ hints, Omni-Man’s return might mark the start of his redemption arc.
Invincible Season 3, Episodes 1 to 3 are now streaming on Prime Video.
