Interstellar stars Matthew McConaughey as a former pilot who is asked by NASA to lead a secret mission when Earth faces disasters like dust storms and dying crops. His job is to travel through a wormhole to find a new planet for humans to live on.
The movie also features big names like Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, John Lithgow, Casey Affleck, Timothée Chalamet, Mackenzie Foy, Ellen Burstyn, and Matt Damon. Interstellar was nominated for five Oscars at the 87th Academy Awards and won Best Visual Effects.
Paramount Pictures’ re-release of Interstellar had a standout weekend, even with movies like Moana 2, Wicked, and Gladiator II still showing. The film played only in IMAX theaters in the U.S., earning $4.5 million from 166 screens.
It averaged $27,000 per screen, the highest of any movie in North America. Ten IMAX 70mm locations completely sold out, bringing in $702,000 with an incredible $70,000 per screen. Christopher Nolan shared his excitement about the amazing response, saying:
