Hungarian boxer Anna Luca Hamori showed she was unhappy about having to fight Algerian opponent Imane Khelif in the quarter-finals of the 66 kg boxing match at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Olympic fans want Hungarian boxer Anna Luca Hamori disqualified from the games because she posted mean messages about Algeria’s Imane Khelif.
People are divided over Khelif being in the Paris games. Her first opponent, Angela Carini, quit the match after only 46 seconds and didn’t shake Khelif’s hand. Carini has apologized for her actions after the fight. She said she was “angry” about how her Olympics journey ended and felt “sad” about the backlash against Khelif.
She also said, “I’m sorry for my opponent. If the IOC says she can fight, I respect that decision.”

However, Hungary’s Hamori got involved in the drama by sharing posts that people called “vile” and “disgusting.” She started by posting many mean comments about Khelif on her Instagram story. One picture, in particular, caused a lot of anger.
The picture showed a thin, “feminine” woman facing a big, muscular “masculine” man with devil horns. Because of the rumours about Khelif’s gender, fans think Hamori is trying to say that her next opponent is a beast.
Here is a screenshot of the picture Hamori posted on her stories:

When asked about preparing for the match, Hamori called Khelif a “man” and said, “I’m not scared. I don’t care about the news or social media, If my opponent is a man, it will be an even bigger victory for me if I win.”
Because of Hamori’s comments and posts on social media, Olympic viewers want Luca Hamori disqualified from the games.
One fan wrote, “This is terrible behaviour! Luca Hamori disqualified from the olympics.” Another fan added, “Luca Hamori’s hateful posts about Imane Khelif go against the Athletes’ Declaration. We need to address this to keep sportsmanship and respect.“
The backlash against Khelif being in the games started after a report said she was one of two boxers banned from International Boxing Association (IBA) events for not meeting gender eligibility rules.
The IBA suggested that Khelif and Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-Ting had high testosterone levels and couldn’t compete.

However, neither Khelif nor Lin has ever said they are a man, transgender, or intersex.
After Khelif’s fight against Carini, the IOC released a statement about her being in the games. They said, “Everyone has the right to play sports without discrimination.”
The statement also said, “All athletes in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 boxing tournament follow the competition’s rules and medical regulations set by the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit.”
