In the second episode of “House of the Dragon,” the story starts with sadness in King’s Landing. King Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) finds out that his young son Jaehaerys has been brutally murdered. He gets very angry with Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) because Criston was supposed to protect Jaehaerys. Instead, Criston was sleeping with Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and not watching over the castle.
Everyone in King’s Landing comes together for a sad funeral to honor Jaehaerys. They even reattached his head for the ceremony.
Phia Saban, who plays Queen Helaena Targaryen, told Variety, “I remember them asking, ‘Do you want to see the dummy?’ It was really well-made,” she said. “They used gold thread to sew the head back onto the body, and there were flowers and everything.”
“It was an amazing fake head,” added Olivia Cooke. “It looked so real. After a while, we got used to it and even sang on the back of the carriage between filming.”

They catch Blood, the person who killed Jaehaerys. To find Blood’s partner, Cheese, King Aegon orders all the rat catchers in the city to be hanged. Ser Criston Cole replaces Otto Hightower as Aegon’s hand. They start planning for war and blame Rhaenyra Targaryen for the baby’s death.
In Dragonstone, Rhaenyra is shocked by the news because she only wants Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) to pay for killing her son Lucerys. She says she didn’t do anything to Jaehaerys’ death and then realizes her husband, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), must have been the one behind it. They argue fiercely, and Daemon flies off angrily on his dragon.

Once again, Criston plans revenge using a tricky scheme involving twin knights, Arryk and Erryk Cargyll. Arryk serves Alicent’s side while Erryk fights for Rhaenyra. Arryk pretends to be Erryk and sneaks into Dragonstone to kill Rhaenyra without recognition. But things go wrong when Erryk confronts him because he’s the only one who knows his true identity. The brothers remain loyal to their queens and fight a sad duel. It’s hard to say who is winning, but Erryk fatally wounds Arryk. He then apologizes to Rhaenyra and takes his own life, consumed with regret for what he’s done.
