“Making the first season was so special because I got to know and really like Matt, Liv, and the rest of the cast,” D’Arcy said about working on the show.
After building up the characters’ relationships in season one, season two of HBO Max’s House of the Dragon will have its main characters scattered all over Westeros, which made the closing cast a bit sad.
The second season of the Game of Thrones prequel will continue to show the House Targaryen civil war. Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), and their Dragonstone forces will go against Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and her children to claim the Iron Throne. This means the actors often filmed their own separate scenes instead of being together in group scenes.
At the June 5 premiere, there were lots of cool moments to get excited about! First up, we have Emma D’Arcy, who’s playing Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen again.
D’Arcy looked super serious and focused in a shiny suit as they chatted with Extra.
“D’Arcy explained that Rhaenyra is really sad, almost like she can’t move or think straight”
In the last scene of season 1, Rhaenyra finds out that her son, Luke, was killed by her nephew, Aemond Targaryen, who supports his brother Aegon’s claim to the Iron Throne instead of hers.
Olivia Cooke, who plays Alicent Hightower, Rhaenyra’s former best friend in the show, continues to support her son Aegon’s claim to the Iron Throne, even though he’s not very stable. Cooke wore blue and black clothes and talked to Extra.
“She’s really scared,” Cooke said about Alicent. “Her son just did something really bad by killing Rhaenyra’s son. She knows there’s going to be a big fight soon, and the Targaryen family and the kingdom are going to split apart.”
Then there’s Rhaenyra’s husband, Daemon Targaryen, played by Matt Smith. Once wanting to be king himself, Daemon will now support his wife in the upcoming wars.
But it seems he’s going on a weird and crazy journey in season 2. “He kind of falls into a dark place,” Smith told Extra.
“A lot of the things you thought you knew about him start to come apart. He sort of loses it, like a piece of string blowing away in the wind. He kind of goes a bit crazy.”
You can watch Season 2 of House of the Dragon on Sunday, June 16 at 9/8c on HBO and Max. Also, check other articles on the website about the show and the latest tidbits.
