Bonnie Wright, who played Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, hopes the TV version will include scenes from the books that were left out of the films.
HBO is turning the iconic Harry Potter story into a TV series. Fans of J.K. Rowling’s books are excited, but Bonnie Wright, who played Ginny Weasley in the movies, has a special request for the show’s creators.
The actress shared that she hopes the TV show will include more scenes from the Harry Potter books that were left out of the movies. Wright became popular for playing Harry’s love interest in the films, where Daniel Radcliffe starred as Harry.
During the Back to Hogwarts event, the actress told Variety how excited she is about the new HBO series. When asked what she’d like to see in the show that wasn’t in the movies, Wright replied, “So many things. I’d love to see more of the relationship between Ginny and Harry develop.”
She added, “There are subtle moments where they start to fall in love. I’d like to see more of Ginny’s journey as she becomes a loyal friend to Harry, truly understands him, and becomes the perfect partner for him.”
The actress also said she hopes to see the characters grow and the story stay closer to the books. She mentioned, “There are so many characters, like Neville and Luna, with moments I love from the books. As a fan, I hope to see more of them.”
During the conversation, the actress advised the new actors to stay calm, as they might feel pressured to perform in a story that’s already a huge success. Wright looked back on her time on set and shared that filming was easier back then because there was no social media, so public opinions didn’t have as much impact.
“When we were making the movies, we didn’t know how big ‘Harry Potter’ would become. Without social media and so much public opinion, it felt like we were in our own little world,” she said.
The Harry Potter movies featured a diverse cast, including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in the lead roles. They were joined by actors like Tom Felton, Alan Rickman, Matthew Lewis, and Michael Gambon, among many others.
The Harry Potter TV series is set to air in 2026.
