Hannah Berner blasted for ‘extremely sexist’ joke about Taylor Swift’s relationship with Travis Kelce

Comedian Hannah Berner has found herself at the center of controversy after a joke about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce went viral. The quip, made during Netflix’s special Torching 2024: A Roast of the Year, has drawn backlash from Swift’s devoted fanbase, the Swifties, for being “degrading” and “vile.”

Berner, 33, compared NFL star Kelce to Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old recently charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Social media users quickly criticized the comment. One called it “outright vile,” accusing Berner of “objectifying” Swift, while another labeled it “degrading.” One user noted, “Travis Kelce just keeps picking up stray bullets at this point.”

Despite the backlash, some defended Berner, pointing out that roasts are meant to push boundaries. “It’s a roast,” one commenter said. “What did you expect? G-rated feel-good comedy?”

Berner’s representatives have not responded to requests for comment.

This isn’t the first time Berner has faced criticism for her roast material. Just last week, she caused a stir by calling actress Blake Lively a “c–t” during the same special. The joke aired amid Lively’s legal battle with her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni, who she accused of sexual harassment.

Berner later clarified that her set was filmed before the allegations against Baldoni surfaced. “To be 100 percent clear, I support Blake xoxo,” she wrote on Instagram Stories.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, who began dating in 2023, have frequently been the subject of jokes due to their high-profile relationship.

Berner’s joke has reignited debates about the boundaries of comedy, with fans divided over whether it was clever or crossed the line.
