Netflix has picked up a long-awaited video game adaptation that was canceled shortly after it started. While Netflix has saved several shows over the years that didn’t get much of a chance, this one isn’t a rescue (at least not yet). Instead, Netflix will stream the action sci-fi series Halo starting next month.
According to What’s on Netflix, Netflix US will get both seasons of Halo. The series brings the best-selling video game franchise to live-action and has been somewhat divisive since its release. Until now, it was only available on Paramount+, so a whole new audience will soon be able to watch and decide what they think.

The show stars Pablo Schreiber from The Wire and Den of Thieves as Master Chief Petty Officer John-117, a cybernetically enhanced super-soldier who must protect humanity from the alien Covenant in the 26th century. Halo Seasons 1 and 2 will arrive on Netflix on October 1, 2025. You can check out the official synopsis below…
With the galaxy on the brink of war, Master Chief John-117 embarks on a journey to find the key to humankind’s salvation or its extinction: the Halo.
During its two-season run, Halo received strong critical praise. Season 1 holds a solid 70% on Rotten Tomatoes, while Season 2 improved even more with an almost perfect 90%. However, audiences and longtime fans of the game had problems with the adaptation from the start, mainly due to changes made for the live-action version. On the Popcornmeter, Season 1 sits at a very mixed 52%, with Season 2 doing better at 69%.

Clearly, despite some issues, Halo was heading in the right direction. That’s why it was such a shock when Paramount+ canceled the show in July 2024.
Paramount+ can confirm that ‘Halo’ will not move forward with a third season on the service. We are extremely proud of this ambitious series and would like to thank our partners at Xbox, 343 Industries and Amblin Television, along with showrunner and executive producer David Wiener, his fellow executive producers, the entire cast led by Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief and the amazing crew for all their outstanding work. We wish everyone the best going forward.

Fans now hope that Netflix bringing the series to its platform could lead to a third season, though there’s no sign of that happening yet. Clearly, despite some issues, Halo was heading in the right direction. That’s why it was such a shock when Paramount+ canceled the show in July 2024.
Fans now hope that Netflix bringing the series to its platform could lead to a third season, though there’s no sign of that happening yet. Still, hopeful fans might take comfort in Netflix’s growing interest in video game adaptations, as the streamer is currently working on an Assassin’s Creed series, a Gears of War movie, and an animated Splinter Cell series called Splinter Cell: Deathwatch.
