Jim Carrey, who played the Grinch in the 2000 film How the Grinch Stole Christmas, has mentioned he might reprise the role, but only under a specific condition.
Oh, gosh, you know, if we could figure out the Grinch. The thing about it is, on the day, I do that with a ton of makeup and can hardly breathe. It was an extremely excruciating process. The children were in my mind all the time. ‘It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.’ And now, with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do other things. Anything is possible in this world.
Carrey told ComicBook.com when asked which of his characters he’d like to play again.
The movie got mixed reviews, but it was a big hit, making $346 million worldwide. Jim Carrey’s Grinch was the top-earning movie in the U.S. in 2000 and the sixth-highest worldwide that year.
The movie earned three Oscar nominations and won one for makeup and hairstyling, but turning Jim Carrey into the Grinch wasn’t easy. Carrey found the process very painful, and the makeup artist, Kazuhiro Tsuji, said it was so tough working with Carrey that he had to go to therapy afterwards.

Jim Carrey will soon appear in Sonic 3, reprising his role as Dr. Robotnik. This comes despite his earlier statement about planning to retire. When asked why he’d returned, he gave a typically funny answer:
I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch. And I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly.
he told the Associated Press, before adding
Sonic 3 features Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, Idris Elba as Knuckles, and James Marsden as Tom Wachowski.
Keanu Reeves joins the cast as Shadow. The movie hits theatres on December 24!
