Donald Trump launched a furious public response after the 68th Grammy Awards, threatening legal action against host Trevor Noah over a joke referencing Jeffrey Epstein.
The backlash followed a moment near the end of the broadcast when Noah, while presenting Song of the Year, congratulated Billie Eilish and then pivoted into a political punchline.
“There you have it, song of the year! Congratulations, Billie Eilish. Wow. That’s a Grammy that every artist wants, almost as much as Trump wants Greenland.”
Noah continued:
“Which makes sense because, since Epstein’s gone, he needs a new island to hang out with Bill Clinton. I told you, it’s my last year! What are you going to do about it?“
The remark immediately drew Trump’s ire. Posting on his social media platform after the ceremony, Trump condemned the Grammys and Noah in a lengthy statement, writing:
“The Grammy Awards are the WORST, virtually unwatchable! CBS is lucky not to have this garbage litter their airwaves any longer.”
He then targeted Noah directly:
“The host, Trevor Noah, whoever he may be, is almost as bad as Jimmy Kimmel at the Low Ratings Academy Awards.”
Trump denied the implication made in the joke and accused Noah of spreading false information:
“Noah said, INCORRECTLY about me, that Donald Trump and Bill Clinton spent time on Epstein Island. WRONG!!! I can’t speak for Bill, but I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close, and until tonight’s false and defamatory statement, have never been accused of being there, not even by the Fake News Media.”
He then escalated his response by threatening legal action:
“Noah, a total loser, better get his facts straight, and get them straight fast. It looks like I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C., and suing him for plenty$.”
Trump concluded with a warning:
“Ask Little George Slopadopolus, and others, how that all worked out. Also ask CBS! Get ready Noah, I’m going to have some fun with you! President DJT.”
Earlier in the night, Noah also stirred controversy with jokes involving Nicki Minaj, noting her absence from the ceremony and quipping that she was at the White House with Trump “discussing very important issues.” He followed with a mock Trump impression that triggered a wave of online backlash and conspiracy-laced social media posts from Minaj, along with an official response from White House communications director Steven Cheung.
The Grammys broadcast, already marked by sharp political humor and celebrity crowd work, has since become the center of post-show controversy, with Trump’s threat of a lawsuit adding another chapter to the ongoing clash between political figures and late-night-style comedy.
