The titans have arrived and taken charge! Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the latest film in the Monsterverse, is a big hit on Netflix this holiday season. The movie is sitting at the top of the charts, proving to be one of the most exciting kaiju films in recent times. After having the two titans fight each other, The New Empire unites them for an epic team-up that fans can enjoy over and over.
The movie, directed and co-written by horror expert Adam Wingard, received a lot of praise from fans for its exciting team-up, amazing action scenes, and heartfelt story. It holds a 54% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes but has a much higher 90% score from the audience. At the box office, it did really well, earning over $571.8 million worldwide, with a budget of $135–150 million.
This made it the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2024, the highest-grossing movie in the Monsterverse, and the top film in both the Godzilla and King Kong franchises. The excitement continues as the movie now hits streaming, with fans enjoying it again and again.

In The New Empire, Godzilla and Kong team up to face a huge threat deep inside the planet, one that puts their lives and the future of humanity at risk. The movie’s success has led to a confirmed sequel. However, director Adam Wingard won’t be returning for the new film. Instead, Grant Sputore, known for his work on the Netflix movie I Am Mother, will take over as director. While details about the cast and plot are still unclear, the sequel is already in development.
