George R.R. Martin teamed up with Meredith Glynn, the showrunner of My Lady Jane, on a Game of Thrones spinoff that was eventually shelved. He enjoyed her new series, and now fans are circulating a petition to bring the spinoff back.
George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, has been blogging a lot recently. He’s shared some strong opinions about HBO’s House of the Dragon prequel, but not everything has been about drama. As someone who loves books, movies, and TV, Martin also mentioned some of the media he’s been enjoying, including the canceled Prime Video show My Lady Jane.

My Lady Jane, based on Jodi Meadows’ book, tells the story of Lady Jane Grey, who briefly became queen of England for nine days before being overthrown and executed. However, the story takes place in an alternate version of 15th-century England, where shapeshifters known as Ethians exist, adding a twist to her tale.
The show gained a loyal fanbase quickly, but Prime Video canceled it soon after season 1 was released in June. Fans started a petition on Change.org to try and get the show renewed, and it has nearly 70,000 signatures. With someone as famous as George R.R. Martin now supporting it, the number of signatures could grow even more. On his blog, George R.R. Martin wrote,
Meredith Glynn was the showrunner of My Lady Jane along with Gemma Burgess. This is the first time it’s been mentioned that Glynn worked on a Game of Thrones spinoff, one of many developments over the years. Several spinoffs are still being planned, including one about Aegon the Conqueror, another about Corlys Velaryon, and an animated show about the Golden Empire of Yi Ti.
Some other Game of Thrones spinoffs were in development but have been shelved, like the Jon Snow sequel and a series set in Flea Bottom, the slum of King’s Landing. It’s unlikely Glynn was involved in the Jon Snow sequel, as it was pitched by actor Kit Harington. I wonder if she worked on the Flea Bottom show instead?
In any case, Meredith Glynn moved on to work on My Lady Jane, which unfortunately was canceled. Shows have been brought back before, so if you’re a fan of this one, you can help by signing the petition.
