Big casting news has been announced for Lanterns, DC Studios’ upcoming series based on the Green Lantern comic characters. New details about the characters have also been shared.
According to Deadline, Garrett Dillahunt (Fear the Walking Dead) is the latest actor to join the cast of Lanterns. Dillahunt will play William Macon, a “modern cowboy” described as a self-righteous man who believes in conspiracies and hides his ambitious nature behind a charming, carefully planned appearance. This role will be an important recurring part of the series.
Dillahunt’s casting comes after earlier announcements that Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler will star as John Stewart and Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern characters. Kelly MacDonald will also play Sheriff Kerry. The show follows:
“new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two space cops pulled into a dark mystery on Earth as they investigate a murder in the heart of America.”
Dillahunt is well-known for his popular role as John Dorie in AMC’s zombie drama: Fear the Walking Dead. Some of his other memorable TV roles include Francis Wolcott in Deadwood, Cromartie in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dr. Jody Kimball-Kinney in The Mindy Project, and Keith Dennison in Hand of God. He also earned a Critics’ Choice Award nomination for playing Burt Chance in the comedy series Raising Hope. Recently, he appeared in the Peacock series Hysteria! alongside Bruce Campbell and Julie Bowen.

Lanterns are created by Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen), and well-known comic writer Tom King. Mundy will be the showrunner, while Lindelof and King are co-writing and executive-producing with James Hawes, who will direct the first two episodes.
The live-action Green Lantern series has had a long development journey. In 2019, Greg Berlanti was set to create the show, but that version didn’t move forward and was canceled in 2022. At one point, actor Finn Wittrock was chosen to play Guy Gardner, but now Nathan Fillion will play that character in Superman since the previous Lanterns project didn’t work out. Wittrock remains hopeful that he’ll still join the DCU someday in a different role.
Lanterns do not have a release date yet.
