Frankie Muniz says he’s still close to Bryan Cranston, his TV dad from Malcolm in the Middle.
I started working with him when I was just 11 or 12 years old, He became like a real father figure to me. Even now, he’s like a huge star in Hollywood. He’s been in amazing movies and shows, won so many awards—he’s just the best.

Even though Frankie Muniz now focuses on stock car racing and Bryan Cranston is a huge Hollywood star, their friendship hasn’t changed.
He still checks on me every couple of weeks, He cares about what I’m up to, comes to my races, and even showed up at my band’s shows. He’s such an inspiration, and I hope to be that kind of person for someone else someday.

Frankie Muniz and Bryan Cranston starred in Malcolm in the Middle alongside Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Kennedy Masterson, Justin Berfield, and Erik Per Sullivan. The show ran for six seasons from 2000 to 2006. It followed a super-smart but shy boy (played by Muniz), his stressed-out mom (Kaczmarek), and his funny, caring dad (Cranston) as they got into all kinds of crazy adventures. The show made Muniz a big star and helped Cranston go from a well-known actor to one of TV’s biggest names, especially after his role in Breaking Bad.
Frankie Muniz loved car racing even back when he was on Malcolm in the Middle. After the show ended, he put acting aside to focus on his racing dreams. In 2008, he signed his first contract with a big racing team, and now he’s become a full-time NASCAR driver.
He still acts sometimes. Last year, he was in an episode of Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens, and the year before, he appeared in New Amsterdam. When asked what would make him return to acting full-time, he said,
I’d love to see where Malcolm and his family are now. It would be so much fun to catch up with everyone 20 years later. That’s the kind of project I’d want to do again.
Muniz still says Bryan Cranston was the true star of Malcolm in the Middle, a show that stood out because it didn’t use a laugh track.
He was amazing because he gave 100% every single day on set, He was so kind to everyone and never acted like he wanted to leave. He made the most of the opportunity and did his best work. That’s always inspired me.

In 2022, Malcolm in the Middle creator Linwood Boomer told a magazine they were thinking about a reunion or reboot.
It would be fun if we find the right idea, It’s taking longer because everyone is so annoying.
He said
Last year, Bryan Cranston shared that Boomer was seriously considering it. “We’re all on board,” Cranston said.
The cast said we’d love to see each other again, but it needs to be for a good reason. I don’t need a job or just want to stay busy. But I love working, and I’d love to reunite with the cast and crew to tell more stories as that character.
