34 years ago, Die Hard 2 with Bruce Willis and Ghost with Demi Moore were huge hits at the box office.
It’s rare for a married couple in Hollywood to top the box office together. Ryan Reynolds, 47, and Blake Lively, 36, are the first couple in 34 years to have their movies simultaneously hold the No. 1 and No. 2 spots at the box office.
After It Ends With Us, starring Blake Lively, premiered on Friday, Aug. 9, the movie has already earned $50 million. It’s just behind Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine, which made over $54 million this weekend and $494.3 million since its release on July 26.
Demi Moore and Bruce Willis were the last married couple to have their movies become the top two at the box office.
In 1990, Willis released Die Hard 2 on July 3, and Moore’s Ghost came out less than two weeks later. Die Hard 2 and Ghost were the top two films at one point that year. Ghost even got five Oscar nominations and won two of them.
In 1990, Ghost became the second-highest-earning movie at the box office, making $217.6 million, while Die Hard 2 ranked No. 8 with $117.5 million.
Demi Moore, 61, and Bruce Willis, 69, met at a movie screening of Stakeout in 1987. They got married that same year and had three daughters before divorcing in 2000. Despite their divorce, they’ve stayed close friends.
Bruce Willis and Demi Moore starred in three movies together: Mortal Thoughts in 1991, Beavis and Butt-Head Do America in 1996, and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle in 2003.
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds worked together on Green Lantern in 2011 and IF in 2024. Lively even made a cameo as Ladypool in Deadpool & Wolverine. Both Deadpool & Wolverine and It Ends with Us are in theaters now.
