Filming for the first season of George R.R. Martin’s favorite Game of Thrones spinoff is complete. The episodes are set to come out next year.
HBO is returning to the world of Game of Thrones with a new spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas. Unlike House of the Dragon, this show offers a more personal look at the Seven Kingdoms. It follows Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), a new knight who enters a tournament at Ashford Meadow. There, he meets a boy called Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), who becomes his squire.
Filming for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms began in June this year. According to Redanian Intelligence, the first season has now finished shooting. The production took about three months, shorter than the six months to film House of the Dragon. This spinoff is simpler, with a smaller cast, mostly one location, and a smaller story. There’s no war or dragons in this part of Westeros’ history.
The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will have only six episodes, and they’ll probably be shorter than typical House of the Dragon episodes. The season is expected to premiere in 2025, but the exact date hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Game of Thrones Creator Says A Knight of the Seven Stays True to His Books
Recently, there’s been some tension in the Song of Ice and Fire fandom. George R.R. Martin has criticized House of the Dragon, which is based on his book Fire & Blood, for not staying true to the original story. It’s been an ongoing issue, both entertaining and awkward. When asked by The Hollywood Reporter to comment on the situation, Martin chose not to criticize and instead praised A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
This is good news for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms but a bit awkward for the rest of the fandom. When the show released, there might be a divide among fans, with one show approved by the creator and the other not. It could lead to some interesting reactions.

Still, hopefully, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be a show everyone enjoys. With House of the Dragon releasing new seasons every two years, I wonder if they’ll do the same with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, so fans can visit Westeros at least once a year.
Martin has written three Dunk and Egg novellas so far, but he plans to write many more. The show might catch up to the books soon, just like Game of Thrones did with Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. Martin is still working on finishing those books, so we’ll deal with that issue when it comes.
