Sometimes, a video game becomes so popular that fans wish to see it in a new way — that’s where adaptations come in. Instead of focusing on the game itself, The Game Awards’ Best Adaptation award celebrates the year’s top game-inspired movies and shows.
The wait is finally over to find out which game-inspired story took the spotlight this year. The winner of the 2024 Best Adaptation award is Fallout!
Criteria for Best Adaptation at TGA:
Recognizing outstanding creative work that faithfully and authentically adapts a video game to another entertainment medium.
Fallout stands out as one of the top game adaptations this year, possibly the very best. However, many fans believed Arcane Season 2 would claim the title. The true highlight is Ella Purnell, who led both shows with outstanding performances.

What Won Best Adaptation Last Year?

HBO’s limited series based on Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us won the Best Adaptation Award at the 2023 Game Awards. It beat other big titles like Castlevania: Nocturne, Gran Turismo, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Twisted Metal. Fans and critics loved the show, especially Episode 3, “Long, Long Time.”
The series has now set a high bar for turning games into live-action stories. Its second season is already in the works and is expected to come out around spring 2025. While Fallout Season 2 doesn’t have a release date yet, it might compete with The Last of Us for Best Adaptation at next year’s awards.
