Rumors spread last week that The Expanse, the amazing sci-fi series based on James S.A. Corey’s books, might be leaving Prime Video. The platform saved the show from cancellation back in 2018, so this news came as a surprise. io9 couldn’t confirm the rumors back then, but it now seems there’s some truth to it — at least partially.
It looks like the first three seasons of The Expanse will be leaving Prime Video in 11 days. If you have a subscription, you can check it yourself—there’s a message on the screens for seasons one and three, though oddly, it’s missing from season two.

Nerdist shared a public reminder that seasons 1 to 3 of The Expanse will leave Prime Video on February 7. io9 has contacted Prime Video for clarification and will provide updates if they get a response.

The Expanse wrapped up in 2022 with a shorter sixth season. Seasons 4 to 6 on Prime Video don’t show that warning message, which makes sense since the first three seasons originally aired on Syfy. After Syfy canceled the show, Prime Video brought it back with the same cast and production team. There could be a behind-the-scenes deal allowing Prime Video to keep streaming the newer seasons, even if the first three are no longer available.

If you’re a fan of The Expanse and still buy physical media, you can get all the seasons on Blu-ray, including a complete set released in late 2023. If you’ve moved away from physical media but can’t bear the idea of losing access to the early protomolecule adventures, it might be worth rethinking. Remember the Cant!
