Warner Bros. Discovery is bringing the magic back to life with an all-new Harry Potter television series set to premiere on HBO in 2026. The series, based on J.K. Rowling’s beloved seven-book saga, marks a fresh start for the iconic franchise, and fans have plenty to look forward to.
Production is set to begin next summer, with open casting calls underway for the trio of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, requiring actors between the ages of 9 and 11 as of April 2025. Renowned costume designer Holly Waddington, who recently won an Oscar for Poor Things, will bring her expertise to the project, while Killing Eve writer Laura Neal has joined the writers’ room.
Francesca Gardiner, who served as a consulting producer on Succession Seasons 3 and 4, has been chosen as the showrunner after beating out fellow finalists Tom Moran and Kathleen Jordan. Gardiner is joined by Mark Mylod, her Succession collaborator, who will direct multiple episodes and executive produce.

Chris Columbus, director of the first two Harry Potter films, voiced his support for the television reboot, calling it a “spectacular idea.” The series will also enlist British VFX powerhouse Framestore, known for their work on the original films, to recapture the magic of Hogwarts.
At Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max streaming event in April 2023, the company confirmed the reboot as part of its revamped streaming strategy. The series promises a faithful adaptation of Rowling’s books, with the author herself involved in the creative process.
The return to Hogwarts is sure to cast a spell on old and new fans alike as they prepare to relive the magical journey of the boy who lived. Expect more updates as production ramps up in the coming months!
