The spice keeps flowing, and so does Anya Taylor-Joy’s journey in the Dune universe. Known for starring in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and the AppleTV+ movie The Gorge this year, Taylor-Joy appeared in Dune: Part Two as Alia Atreides, Paul Atreides’ younger sister.
Timothée Chalamet plays Paul, and Alia shows up to him during a vision caused by the Water of Life. Although her role in the movie is short, it’s important because Alia becomes a key character in Dune Messiah. This book is the next in the series and will inspire the third movie in Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy.
So, how big will Anya Taylor-Joy’s role be? She hasn’t shared much yet but did confirm that she’s part of Denis Villeneuve’s next movie. In a chat with Collider, Taylor-Joy said:
Yes, the movie is happening, and I’m so excited to be involved! I really admire everyone working on the project, and I can’t wait to get started.
Anya Taylor-Joy admitted she feels “anxious” talking about Dune Messiah because the project is so secretive. While she hasn’t shared much, her busy schedule hints that her role might be pretty significant.
I’m working for the next year and a half, so I’ll be free after that.
She mentioned,
Part of this time will go to filming Lucky, a new TV series from AppleTV+, starting in spring 2025. Since Dune Messiah is expected to start filming in 2026, it seems like Taylor-Joy will have plenty of time to dive into the desert world of sandworms and spice.

It’s tough to predict what Dune Messiah (or Dune: Part Three) will look like because Denis Villeneuve has made changes in the first two movies. For example, Alia only has a short appearance in Part Two and stays in Lady Jessica’s womb by the end of the movie.
This is different from Frank Herbert’s original book, where Alia is already born and active by the end of the first story. In the book, she grows up quickly because her mother drinks the Water of Life, which gives Alia special powers and knowledge. Alia even kills Baron Harkonnen in the book, but in the movie, Paul does it instead.
Because of these changes, Alia’s character might look and act differently in the next movie. In Dune Messiah, Alia is about 16 years old, which Taylor-Joy could play. However, since Alia ages quickly, this could explain why she looks more grown-up in Part Two and Messiah. Fans will have to wait until the movie comes out to see how Villeneuve and Taylor-Joy bring her character to life.
