Donald Glover, who will be leading the new Lando project for Disney and Lucasfilm, hopes to bring more fun into the Star Wars world. He feels the series can sometimes be “way too serious.”
“I just want it to be fun, As a Star Wars fan, I think it’s important to have more fun in the story.”
Glover said in a recent video interview with the Wall Street Journal
The Atlanta star and producer explained that it’s hard to enjoy things in the galaxy right now. “There are serious events happening, and I understand why things feel heavy since those moments connect us. But enjoying life is part of being human, and I think we’re missing out on that right now.”

Donald Glover recently announced he will step away from using the name Childish Gambino and postponed his tour because of health concerns. He will co-write the new Lando movie with his brother, Stephen Glover. They replaced Justin Simien, and it was later revealed that the project will now be a movie in theaters instead of a Disney+ series.
Glover laughed and said, “I love Star Wars, but sometimes it’s way too serious. Everything about the Skywalkers always feels really serious.”

In Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Donald Glover will play a younger Lando Calrissian. He first played this role in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, which didn’t do well at the box office. Even though the movie didn’t succeed commercially, fans liked Glover’s Lando.
The character was originally played by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and later appeared in Return of the Jedi (1983) and The Rise of Skywalker (2019).
“The best thing about Lando is that he’s a scoundrel. People can relate to him because he probably thinks, ‘This war is crazy. I need money,’ and I think everyone can understand that feeling.”
