After months of rumors and speculation, it’s been confirmed that Doctor Who will continue on BBC One for more series beyond this year, though fans might have to wait until 2027.
Doctor Who season 2’s third-to-last episode airs on Saturday, May 17 at 5pm AEST on BBC iPlayer. Avoid social media until the credits roll to keep the surprises intact. Viewers outside the UK can also watch the show by using a VPN to access.
The Mirror reports that the series will return to BBC One for upcoming seasons, with Russell T Davies already writing scripts for two more series, regardless of whether Disney chooses to continue its partnership with the BBC after this season.
Whether or not Disney stays, the expectation is that the show will continue. Yes, there will be a gap while the scripts are finalised, the episodes are filmed and the editing process takes place. But we’ll be back…
A source told The Mirror
When Doctor Who began its partnership with Disney+, there was additional funding put in place. Doctor Who is an expensive show to make, with its effects budget taking up a significant part of the overall spend, so if Disney were to withdraw its funding, then there wouldn’t be as significant an impact on production as some fans may think. The TARDIS set is still standing in Cardiff, all ready to go on new adventures.

However, a mysterious force is blocking their way, and the time-traveling TARDIS team must confront great dangers, fierce enemies, and even wilder threats than before.

Like many Doctors before him, the Fifteenth Doctor won’t travel alone. In season two, he will be joined by two companions as Varada Sethu boards the TARDIS for another adventure through time and space alongside Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday.
There’s no shortage of guest stars joining the adventures with The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa), Belinda (Varada Sethu), and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson). Rylan appears as himself, co-hosting the Interstellar Song Contest, while Alan Cumming lends his voice to the villainous cartoon character, Mr Ring-a-Ding.
The season 2 trailer also features Anita Dobson, Bonnie Langford, Jemma Redgrave, Caoilfhionn Dunne, Christopher Chung, Evelyn Miller, Ariyon Bakare, Julie Dray, and Jonah Hauer-King, with Rose Ayling-Ellis MBE joining for an exciting and chilling adventure.
