It’s official – Doctor Who‘s Tales of the TARDIS is coming back for a special episode with the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson).
Last year, they released six episodes of the spin-off to celebrate Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary, featuring classic Doctors like Sylvester McCoy, Peter Davison, and Colin Baker, along with favorite companions in touching new scenes. The new episode will air at 8pm on Thursday, June 20th, on BBC Four and BBC iPlayer, just before the season 14 finale.
We don’t know much about the casting and plot yet – only that Gatwa and Gibson will debut in this episode.

Why are they releasing a new episode now? In the past, Tales of the TARDIS episodes added new scenes to classic Doctor Who stories. Does this mean we’ll see a character from a classic story return?
One idea is that the villain Sutekh might come back. Sutekh first showed up in the 1975 story The Pyramids of Mars with Tom Baker. Played by Gabriel Woolf, this god-like alien wanted to destroy everything in the universe.
Showrunner Russell T Davies said this season has lots of powerful characters, like the Toymaker played by Neil Patrick Harris in the 60th anniversary specials. We’ve already seen Jinkx Monsoon’s Maestro, and it’s likely we’ll see more. With a new Tales of the TARDIS episode, it would make sense to bring back a character from classic Doctor Who.
Another idea is that the Doctor’s granddaughter, Susan Foreman, might come back. Susan, played by Carole Ann Ford, was the very first companion in Doctor Who’s first season. Unlike other old companions, she hasn’t come back recently – but maybe now’s the time?
Susan was mentioned in The Devil’s Chord, and the Doctor has talked about his family a lot this season.

Davies recently hinted that the Doctor will talk more about his family this season. Maybe it’s because he’s found one of them? We do know that the Remembered TARDIS from Tales of the TARDIS will show up in the main show, since it was seen in the trailer.
