Netflix will release Death By Lightning on November 6, a four-episode limited series starring Michael Shannon and Matthew Macfadyen.
Created, written, and executive produced by Mike Makowsky (Bad Education), the drama tells the incredible true story of James Garfield (Shannon), the reluctant 20th President of the United States, and his biggest admirer, Charles Guiteau (Macfadyen) — the man who eventually kills him, according to the synopsis.
Garfield became President in 1881 and was assassinated that same year. Before that, he served nine terms as a Congressman and was elected Senator, a position he declined after becoming President, despite not campaigning for the role.

He was shot by Guiteau, who believed he had played an important part in Garfield’s election. Matt Ross (Captain Fantastic) directs, while Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss executive produce under their Netflix deal.
The main cast includes Nick Offerman (Chester Arthur), Bradley Whitford (James Blaine), Shea Whigham (Roscoe Conkling), and Betty Gilpin (Crete Garfield).
