A Marvel Comics personality has spoken out about Captain America: Brave New World’s box office struggles. The MCU’s first 2025 release debuted with $88.8 million in the U.S., but it faced one of the franchise’s steepest second-weekend declines, earning just $28 million—a sharp 68% drop. Negative reviews, mixed audience reactions, and other factors have impacted the film’s performance. A Marvel Comics writer and artist also took notice of the movie’s ongoing challenges.
Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld took to Twitter to blame Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige for Captain America: Brave New World’s box office troubles.
Using baseball terms, Rob Liefeld said Marvel Studios should pull Kevin Feige from the game because “he’s spent.” The comic book creator shared his thoughts after hearing about Captain America: Brave New World’s box office struggles, including an 82.4% drop from its opening day to the film’s second Friday. Liefeld recently revealed he cut ties with Marvel due to the poor handling of Deadpool & Wolverine, criticizing Feige—a stance he echoed in his latest comments.

Liefeld previously announced he would no longer work with Marvel, citing his treatment during Deadpool & Wolverine’s release and pointing to Kevin Feige as a key reason. He claimed Feige ignored him on the movie’s red carpet and openly criticized the Marvel Studios president, stating, “Kevin Feige does not treat comic book creators well.” Now, with Captain America: Brave New World struggling at the box office, Liefeld has reignited the feud, once again aiming criticism at Feige.

Liefeld’s remarks highlight a common criticism surrounding the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. During the Infinity Saga, Feige’s hands-on approach earned praise as he built the most successful franchise in Hollywood history. However, since Phase 4 introduced Marvel’s expansion into TV, many series and films have received mixed reactions. Critics often claim Feige has taken on too much, spreading himself too thin. Liefeld’s latest comments offer a sharper take on that ongoing concern.

While Captain America: Brave New World fell short of its potential, I disagree with Liefeld’s suggestion that Kevin Feige should leave Marvel. Feige has consistently shown a strong understanding of Marvel characters and audience expectations. The MCU’s recent TV overhaul, emphasizing multi-season series and proper showrunners, is already addressing past issues. I believe that prioritizing major characters while elevating lesser-known ones can lead to more successful films, all with Feige continuing to lead the way.
