ITV’s newest quiz show, Genius Game, hosted by David Tennant, premiered on Wednesday (30th April), but it didn’t take long for viewers to head to social media to share their confusion about the format. The show, which challenges contestants with mind games that test both intelligence and strategy for a cash prize, left many fans scratching their heads during the first episode.
Viewers took to social media to complain that the format was “too confusing” and “complex,” with many struggling to grasp the rules of the game.
One viewer tweeted: “Sorry David you’ve lost me already I’m too dumb for this #GeniusGame,” while another tweeted the sentiment: “Already too complex #GeniusGame.”
A third viewer added: “So confused already! #GeniusGame,” while another commented: “This is too complicated for me #GeniusGame.”
According to WalesOnline, the show features strategy-based games and social manipulation, with one contestant eliminated in each round.
Every round includes a main match and a death match. All players compete in the main match, after which a winner and an eliminated contestant are chosen. The winner receives a Token of Life, granting them immunity from the death match.

The player who comes in last during the main match must select another contestant to face off in the death match, which determines who gets eliminated. The winner of the death match then claims the garnets from the eliminated player.
Host David oversees all the action, often interacting with the contestants through a large screen. In the premiere episode, Charlotte emerged as the main match winner, while Paul was selected for the death match.
