The Scottish star is hosting the new ITV game show, which originally came from South Korea.
ITV’s Genius Game is a new strategy-driven reality show set to air later this month. Hosted by David Tennant, it’s an adaptation of the original South Korean format. The show features eleven standout contestants selected for their intelligence and social skills, including a crime writer, a forensic scientist, a PhD student, and two doctors among others.
While teamwork is key to tackling the challenges, some inspired by the Korean version and others entirely new, players must also outwit and outplay each other to get ahead.
Alliances will rise and fall, but in the end, only one player – armed with intelligence, creative thinking, and persuasive skills, will walk away with the cash prize. Across the eight-episode series, David Tennant appears on-screen to guide the contestants and explain the rules of each challenge.
Starting today at 9pm on ITVX, David Tennant invites the nation’s sharpest minds to a reality game show, ‘Genius Game‘ full of strategy, intellect, and social skill, perfect for fans of The Traitors. Every episode features a Main Match, where the group competes in a team game. The winner secures safety and selects another player to save. The player who finishes last in the Main Match must enter the Death Match and pick an opponent. The loser of that showdown is eliminated from the game.

In an exclusive interview with Radio Times, Anna Kidd, the show’s games executive producer, explained why they selected David Tennant to take on the role of The Creator and front the series.
In the Korean version of the show, The Creator is this shady character – their face is wrapped in a bandage, you never see them, they’re very sinister,
she said
We knew for ITV, we wanted to bring some personality and wit to it. Genuinely, the only name who was ever on our list was David Tennant.
She explained that the team wanted to take a different approach for the ITV version:
He’s got this blend of intelligence, humour, and unique charm. He’s just the perfect person for this show. When we approached him and he watched some of the Korean version, he instantly said yes. He totally nailed the brief. Obviously, he’s phenomenal at what he does, but he was really invested, and he really understood what the role was and what the games were.
Kidd also shared how much Tennant contributed to the production:
He brought so much more than we could ever have hoped. We were really lucky – he was absolutely brilliant. He’s really going to add something extra to the show.
Genius Game will air at 9 pm today on ITVX.
