As the global promotional tour for the final season of Stranger Things gathers momentum, fans have noticed the conspicuous absence of one of its main stars — David Harbour. The 50-year-old actor, best known for his role as police chief Jim Hopper, has remained silent and out of the spotlight, sparking intense speculation as controversy surrounds his personal and professional life.
Harbour’s Absence Raises Questions
While the rest of the Stranger Things cast continues their international press commitments, Harbour’s no-show has not gone unnoticed. He was missing from a recent Time magazine feature in which co-stars Millie Bobby Brown, Noah Schnapp, and Finn Wolfhard reminisced about the series. Although other cast members such as Winona Ryder and Maya Hawke were also absent, Harbour’s social media silence — notably his lack of promotion for the new trailer — has further fueled curiosity.
According to Vanity Fair, Harbour’s absence is due to scheduling conflicts with another project, which reportedly prevented him from joining the tour stops in New York, Los Angeles, and São Paulo. The Standard has reached out to his representatives for comment.
Lily Allen’s Album Sparks Cheating Allegations
Adding to the scrutiny, Harbour’s ex-wife, British singer Lily Allen, 40, has stirred controversy with her new album West End Girl. The record allegedly accuses Harbour of infidelity and even names the woman involved. The revelations have cast a shadow over the actor’s image just as Stranger Things approaches its much-anticipated finale.
Millie Bobby Brown’s Harassment Complaint
More troubling are reports linking Harbour to on-set misconduct claims from co-star Millie Bobby Brown. The Mail on Sunday reports that the 21-year-old actress “filed a harassment and bullying claim before they started shooting the last season.”
“There were pages and pages of accusations. The investigation went on for months,” a source told the paper. Following the complaint, Brown was reportedly accompanied on set by a personal representative throughout production, which wrapped in December 2024. Netflix has declined to comment on the allegations.
A resurfaced 2024 MTV interview has further stoked speculation. When asked if Harbour’s character should officiate her wedding to Jake Bongiovi, Brown appeared visibly uneasy before replying, “Yes… Yes. I don’t know how I feel…” She later suggested Matthew Modine — who plays “Papa” in the series — for the role. Modine eventually officiated the couple’s wedding, and the pair have since adopted a baby girl, according to recent reports.
