Fifteen years on, the ending of Lost is still one of the most talked-about in TV history. Some fans thought it was touching and had deep meaning, while others were upset because it didn’t give clear answers. The show’s many mysteries left a lot open to how people interpret it, and debates about it continue, even with the show’s actors.
I think I have some understanding of it. I was able to talk to the showrunners and I enjoyed it. I know it was controversial, but I enjoyed it because it provided closure for the characters, and that’s the thing I wanted most from that finale.
Daniel Dae Kim, 56, tells PEOPLE
Even now, Kim, who played Jin-Soo Kwon on the six-season series, says that fans still approach him to share how much they enjoyed the show.
The fact that people come up to me 20 years after it aired … is very special, very unique. It doesn’t often happen in this business when there’s so much content to watch all the time.
he says
In 2016, while on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Kim supported the show’s ending, saying that the emotional closure for the characters mattered more than the questions that weren’t answered.
I liked it. I genuinely liked it only because, to me, it didn’t matter all the questions that got unanswered and the minutiae of kind of details that everyone was obsessing about, it didn’t matter as much as what happened to the characters. And I liked to see that they were moving off together because they spent some of their lives together. Now they were gonna spend eternity together.
Kim said
Now that Kim’s sons, Zander and Jackson, are older, he says they “both enjoy” the show, even though they were very young when it first came out.

When Lost first came on the air, my youngest was only 3 years old, and so he was way too young to watch anything that’s scary. I’ll never forget that when those opening drumbeats would come on, or when you hear the whoosh of the logo credit, my youngest son would jump up and run out of the room because he was so frightened to watch it.
he tells PEOPLE
Besides working in TV and movies, Kim is known for his Broadway work.
Last fall, he performed in the play Yellow Face by David Henry Hwang, which led to a Tony Award nomination, making him the first Asian American to be nominated for Lead Actor in a Play.
It feels incredibly special. I found out that stat a couple of weeks ago, and it really surprised me because the Tonys have been around for 78 years! To know that I’m the first makes me a little sad, but a lot happy. It’s very meaningful. In fact, it means more for that reason than it does for my own achievement.
Kim told PEOPLE at the Tony Awards’ annual ‘Meet the Nominees’ event on May 8
The 78th Annual Tony Awards will be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday, June 8, 2025, airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
