Dan Aykroyd doesn’t think he’ll be part of the Ghostbusters series anymore. While talking to The New York Post about his History Channel show The Unbelievable with Dan Aykroyd, the actor—who helped write and starred in the original 1984 Ghostbusters—shared that he and his former co-star Bill Murray probably won’t return to the franchise.
The former Saturday Night Live star shared positive thoughts about the future of the Ghostbusters series. He highlighted the success of Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024), which featured Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Paul Rudd.

Aykroyd played Ray Stantz, a paranormal investigator, in the first Ghostbusters movie. He teamed up with fellow ghostbusters Bill Murray (now 74), Ernie Hudson (now 78), and Harold Ramis, who passed away in 2014 at 69.
In 2016, the series introduced a new version with an all-female cast. Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones took on the roles of the ghostbusters.
Earlier this year, Aykroyd shared strong support for the 2016 Ghostbusters movie during an interview.
Aykroyd’s latest show, The Unbelievable with Dan Aykroyd, came back for its second season on November 15.
The show explores some of the weirdest but true stories from history, using exciting recreations, eye-catching graphics, and old photos and videos to bring them to life.
New episodes of The Unbelievable with Dan Aykroyd air every Friday at 9 p.m. ET on the History Channel.
