Cynthia Erivo, a star in the hit film Wicked based on the popular stage musical, is riding a wave of success that could lead to exciting new roles, including a potential opportunity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Recently, the National Board of Review asked Erivo about her “dream role.”
Erivo, who has received high praise for playing Elphaba in Wicked, shared her strong desire to portray the X-Men character Storm.

She highlighted the untapped potential of Storm’s storylines, which haven’t been fully explored on-screen, as the reason she is eager to take on the role.
Cynthia Erivo was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in Wicked, and it seems likely she’ll also be in the running for an Academy Award.
She was previously nominated for an Oscar for her role in Harriet and won an Emmy for her performance in The Color Purple.
Erivo has some Marvel experience, having voiced Dr. Arkonam Ojo in an episode of the animated series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. She has also appeared in films like Bad Times at the El Royale, Chaos Walking, and Luther: The Fallen Sun. Halle Berry famously played the character of Storm in the original live-action X-Men movies.

Later, Alexandra Shipp took on the role as a younger version of Storm in the franchise. Storm has also been featured in various animated shows and films, including Alison Sealy-Smith voicing her in X-Men ’97, reprising her role from the original X-Men: The Animated Series. In December, Sealy-Smith also voiced Storm in the final season of the animated What If…? series.
The X-Men are expected to appear in the MCU, but it’s still unclear when and how that will happen. Some actors from the X-Men movies have made cameo appearances in recent MCU films, but a rebooted version of the team is also expected to be introduced. This could give Erivo the chance to pursue her dream role.
