Cristin Milioti isn’t ready to part ways with The Penguin just yet.
The Palm Springs actress talked about her reaction to being nominated for an Emmy for Best Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for the DC crime show during a chat on Entertainment Weekly’s The Awardist podcast on Tuesday. She shared that she hopes to come back to her role as Sofia Gigante someday.
It feels unfinished to me for sure. Oh my God. I mean, I would love to revisit her, especially because of where we last see her. So to me, it doesn’t feel finished, but I don’t know. We’ll see. That’s a question for people who are above my pay grade. But yeah, I know that I would love to anyway.
Milioti told EW. ilioti clarified that conversations to bring The Penguin (and her character) back do not include her at this moment, but she remains enthusiastic about playing Sofia again
A follow-up to Matt Reeves’ 2022 film The Batman that centers on Colin Farrell’s scheming Oswald Cobblepot, The Penguin earned 24 Emmy nominations on Tuesday morning, making it the second most-nominated show of the year (just behind Severance, which got 27 nominations). Other nominees from the show include Farrell, Deirdre O’Connell (for Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie), writer Lauren LeFranc, and directors Jennifer Getzinger and Helen Shaver.
It’s a very fabulous day. I’m so thrilled for our show. I’m so thrilled for my fellow cast. I’m so thrilled for our crew to be recognized at this level with 24 nominations. It’s just really overwhelming.
Milioti told EW
Milioti admitted that even though playing a traumatized, murderous character took her to “some dark places” in her performance “both emotionally and physically,” she still loved the experience of portraying Sofia.

I really mean this when I say it: It was also a joy to get to explore those things because I had been wishing for a role like this and searching for a role like this for a while. I knew when this role came to me, how special it was, and I really connected with it. I connect with Lauren’s writing and her brain so deeply. And so it was a pleasure to go to those places because I believe in this show and I believe in this character. So it was taxing, but in a good way.
the actress explained
Milioti also shared that awards shows usually make her “very sentimental” since they bring together cast and crew members who have gone on to work on different projects.
My favorite part of them is getting to be reunited with everyone from The Penguin, ’cause we shot it a long time ago, and our characters also are often separated, so we don’t really get to hang that much. And that’s been really, really lovely. And I really, deeply hope we get to revisit this in some way. And this won’t be a sort of final celebratory moment, but we don’t know.
