The animated series Creature Commandos is getting a second season! Max decided to renew the show while its first season, which has seven episodes, is still airing. The first episode came out on December 5.
Creature Commandos is the first show in the new DC Universe, created by James Gunn, one of DC Studios’ leaders. The DC Universe story will continue next summer with the release of a new Superman movie. Meanwhile, other projects like HBO’s popular series The Penguin are labeled as “Elseworlds,” meaning they don’t connect to the main DC storyline. The show is made by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation, with Dean Lorey, known for Harley Quinn, as its showrunner.

James Gunn and Peter Safran, co-heads of DC Studios, shared their excitement about working with Max for another season of Creature Commandos. In their statement, they said,
We’re so happy to continue the fun and chaos with Max. From the amazing first season of Peacemaker to the incredible success of The Penguin and the record-breaking debut of Creature Commandos, Max has gone above and beyond what anyone expected. A big thank you to Casey, Sarah, Pia, Sono, and the whole team for all their support. We’re proud to have Max as our home.
Amy Gravitt, the VP of comedy programming at HBO and Max, said,
James Gunn is the only one who could create such a unique group of monster misfits that make you laugh, tug at your heart, and make you cheer for them. We’re so excited to continue their adventures with James, Dean Lorey, Peter Safran, and our amazing partners at DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation.
Creature Commandos is about a secret team of imprisoned monsters sent on missions that are too dangerous for humans. The season one voice cast includes big names like Steve Agee, Maria Bakalova, Anya Chalotra, Zoe Chao, Frank Grillo, Sean Gunn, David Harbour, Alan Tudyk, Indira Varma, and Viola Davis. Viola plays Amanda Waller, a role she also had in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.

Peter Girardi, executive VP of alternative programming at Warner Bros. Animation, said,
Thanks to James’s amazing creativity and our talented artists, DC fans have fallen in love with this new group of heroes. We’re thrilled to keep this exciting journey going with our partners at Max. If you want more monsters, you’re getting more monsters!
James Gunn wrote all seven episodes of Creature Commandos and stayed involved in its production even while managing his role at DC Studios and directing Superman. He shared with The Hollywood Reporter,
Working on Creature Commandos felt like Christmas every time. Taking on a huge project like Superman is stressful and tough, but the team on Creature Commandos did such amazing work, and the cast was incredible.
Gunn, Peter Safran, Dean Lorey, and WB Animation president Sam Register are executive producers of the show, with Rick Morales as the supervising producer.
