Silverman also shared her “SNL” memories: “It’s so amazing, but there is just something about it where they just have this energy that puts you in your place.” Sarah Silverman recalls the support she got from one of her first comedy allies, Conan O’Brien.
Conan was the best thing for me. That was his first year [on Late Night], was my first and only year at SNL. And he put me on all the time, even after I was fired, all the time, and that was the start for me. And I wouldn’t have been able to be on [Late Night with] Conan without SNL. And it was an incredible kind of boot camp experience.
Silverman said while she discussed being fired from Saturday Night Live in an interview with SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show. The Wreck-It Ralph star explained how O’Brien’s frequent invitations to appear on Late Night helped her stay afloat when her time at Studio 8H didn’t pan out as she’d hoped.
Elsewhere in the interview, the comedian shared her mixed emotions about SNL, where she was a writer during the 1993-1994 season.
It’s so magical, it’s so amazing, but there is just something about it where they just have this energy that puts you in your place where you feel like a piece of s—, and you’re terrified. The anxiety — it’s very hard to be zen and chill there.

Silverman mentioned that she related to Andy Samberg’s digital short at SNL50: The Anniversary Special, which focused on how every SNL staffer secretly experiences impostor syndrome.

Andy Samberg did that whole piece about the anxiety of doing something for SNL,” she said. “It was very honest — I thought a lot of people connected to it that were there. We all feel like losers here for some reason.
The comedian also shared that she was taken aback by her release from SNL in 1994.

I was totally thrown for a loop when I was fired, ’cause it never occurred to me that was possible. But I think it’s definitely for the best.
