Colin Farrell thinks he’ll return as the Penguin, or Oz Cobb, in The Batman Part II, but he hasn’t seen the script yet. While talking on The Jess Cagle Show with Julia Cunningham, Farrell shared that he’s unsure about the details of the next movie.
In the interview, Farrell also talked about where The Batman Part II could go after The Penguin series wraps up.
Farrell first played the Penguin in The Batman in 2022, where he was a key villain against Robert Pattinson’s version of Batman. This was the first time the Penguin appeared in a live-action Batman movie since Batman Returns in 1992. Farrell’s amazing performance made the character stand out, leading to the HBO series The Penguin.
The show picks up right after the Riddler’s attack in The Batman and follows Oz as he tries to take over Gotham’s criminal world, facing rivals like Sofia Falcone and Sal Maroni. The Penguin received a lot of praise, especially for the performances of Farrell and Cristin Milioti.
Although The Batman was a big hit at the box office, the sequel has faced delays. It was originally set to come out in 2025, but now The Batman Part II will be released in October 2026. We don’t know much about the plot yet, but director Matt Reeves plans to start filming next year.
Even though the first movie and other projects were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Reeves is still excited about the story and plans to make it a trilogy.
Back in September, director Matt Reeves confirmed that the Penguin will return in The Batman Part II. Reeves calls the franchise the “Batman Epic Crime Saga,” so it makes sense that a big gangster-like Oz would continue to be part of the story. The Penguin has been called “the bridge between the two films,” meaning the show is helping set up the next movie.
It’ll be exciting to see what happens in The Batman Part II. Maybe the story will focus on how Pattinson’s Batman deals with the mess caused by Oz and Sofia while facing other villains who want to take over. With so many classic villains, there’s plenty of room for new characters to join in a big crime story.

With filming set to begin early next year, we might get some updates about The Batman Part II soon. Director Matt Reeves has hinted at new villains joining the sequel, so fans could hear about casting announcements sooner rather than later. Once we know which characters Reeves is bringing in, it’ll be easier to guess how the story fits together and what Oz will be up to. No matter what, it seems likely that the Penguin will be causing trouble in Gotham.
