Ralph Fiennes, who played Voldemort in the “Harry Potter” movies, has said he’s okay with Cillian Murphy taking over the role in the upcoming HBO TV series. There are rumours online that Murphy, known for his role in “Oppenheimer,” might be considered to play Voldemort. Fiennes talked about this during an interview on Bravo’s show “Watch What Happens Live.”
Cillian is a fantastic actor. That’s a wonderful suggestion. I would be all in favor of Cillian. Yeah.
Fiennes said
Ralph Fiennes first played Voldemort in the fourth “Harry Potter” movie, 2005’s “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” He also returned as Voldemort in three more movies: “Order of the Phoenix” and “Deathly Hallows” Parts 1 and 2.

A few years before HBO said it was making a “Harry Potter” TV series, Fiennes told Variety that he would totally want to play Voldemort again, saying, “no question about it.”
Last month, Variety said that HBO might want “Bridge of Spies” Oscar winner Mark Rylance to play Dumbledore in the new “Harry Potter” TV series. Warner Bros.

Television hadn’t started official talks with him yet, but they had reached out to see if he was interested and available for the role. So far, no other casting details for the series have been shared.
Fiennes hasn’t said if he’d return for the new show, but it seems like he wouldn’t mind coming back and working with J.K. Rowling again.

Rowling is very involved in the HBO series, even though there’s still controversy about her beliefs on biological sex and trans people. In October 2022, Fiennes defended Rowling against the backlash.
J.K. Rowling has written these great books about empowerment, about young children finding themselves as human beings. It’s about how you become a better, stronger, more morally centered human being. The verbal abuse directed at her is disgusting, it’s appalling. I mean, I can understand a viewpoint that might be angry at what she says about women. But it’s not some obscene, über-right-wing fascist. It’s just a woman saying, ‘I’m a woman and I feel I’m a woman and I want to be able to say that I’m a woman.’ And I understand where she’s coming from. Even though I’m not a woman.
Fiennes told The New York Times at the time.
