“Tommy Shelby has returned, and the Peaky Blinders are in charge again.”
Netflix has revealed a first-look image of Cillian Murphy returning as Tommy Shelby for the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie.
The film, a direct sequel to the series, takes place a few years after the season six finale, following the Shelbys during World War II. The streaming service confirmed that production has started and shared a preview of the main character.
In the new images, Cillian Murphy is shown standing sideways against a brick wall, with Tommy’s hair now looking greyer. Another photo shows Murphy, who also starred in Oppenheimer, on set with Steven Knight, the creator of the show and writer and producer of the movie.
It was also shared that Marvel’s Tim Roth has joined the cast, along with previously announced stars Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan. More actors will be revealed soon.

Since the movie is set during a war, it might explore Tommy Shelby’s troubled past as a sergeant major in World War I, which caused him nightmares and PTSD. However, it’s still unclear if Tommy will be directly involved in the fighting.
Steven Knight hinted that the war story will be told in true Peaky Blinders style.
Tom Harper is directing the film and promised an “amazing” continuation of the Peaky Blinders story.
Cillian Murphy is coming back to Peaky Blinders as an Oscar winner. He won the best actor award last year for playing J. Robert Oppenheimer, the creator of the atomic bomb, in Christopher Nolan’s movie Oppenheimer.
The Peaky Blinders movie doesn’t have a release date or official title yet.
