The Australian actor is amassing franchises like Infinity Stones…
After Marvel and Mad Max, Chris Hemsworth has found his next big project—combining two franchises into one. The Australian actor, known for playing Thor and Dementus, is in talks to star in Paramount Plus’s upcoming Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie.
Hemsworth is already part of the Transformers universe, voicing a young Optimus Prime in the animated film “Transformers One,” coming to theaters in September. Veteran Optimus actor Peter Cullen voiced the character in 2023’s “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” which hinted at the crossover. Hemsworth’s role in the live-action film is still unknown. Directed by Steven Caple Jr., “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” features the Autobots teaming up with the Maximals to stop Unicron from destroying Earth in the 1990s. Anthony Ramos stars as tech-savvy ex-soldier Noah Diaz, alongside Dominique Fishback as museum intern Elena Wallace.
The movie’s ending hints at the arrival of G.I. Joe characters. Michael Kelly plays Agent Burke, who tries to recruit Noah to the team. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura mentioned that the next movie will likely feature Maximals, Autobots, and Joes.
At CinemaCon in April, Paramount announced that a Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie is in the works. The producers include Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy, with Steven Spielberg as an executive producer.
“Two of the biggest action franchises come together for a new Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover film,” reads the project’s teaser.
Although not yet confirmed, Steven Caple Jr. is expected to return as the director. He mentioned to EW last year that the new movie would “expand the entire universe.”
“There’s a big mission ahead, I think it’s cool that there are other planets with Transformers. That’s why I introduced the Maximals in our film. Inspired by Japanese cartoons, I imagined Transformers on many planets. We’ve been on Earth for so long, so it might be interesting to explore battles on other planets.”
Caple said about the sequel.
