Chris Columbus started out as a screenwriter and later became a famous director, especially known for making the hit Christmas movie Home Alone. He also directed the first two Harry Potter movies, which taught him a lot about handling big, magical stories.
Recently, Columbus surprised fans by helping produce a new vampire movie called Nosferatu. In an interview, he shared that working on Harry Potter helped him improve the Nosferatu production. For example, he remembered a scene with the Devil’s Snare plant in Harry Potter that didn’t look as good as he wanted. He asked for better special effects, but a producer said no.

Now, with his new company, Maiden Voyage, which he runs with his daughter Eleanor, Columbus says his past experiences make him better at producing movies. He’s excited about what he’s learned and how it’s helping his latest projects.
One of the executives said to me, ‘Well, it doesn’t matter if that [Devil’s Snare] scene is not as good as the other scenes in the film. It’s fine
the director recalled
Harry, Hermione, and Ron are trying to stop Voldemort from getting the Philosopher’s Stone. First, they put a giant three-headed dog named Fluffy to sleep and find a trapdoor under it. When they jump through the door, they land on a scary, magical plant called Devil’s Snare.
The plant likes dark places and doesn’t like sunlight. It starts wrapping around them, and they can’t break free. Hermione remembers that light can stop the plant, so she uses a spell to create bright light and saves Ron.
So I told myself that I’m never going to say that if I’m producing for someone else. This is probably going to be the death knell for Maiden Voyage as a company, but our philosophy is we never say no to the director. I’m not kidding. And that attitude of ours has been very successful in helping Rob [Eggers] realize his vision [for Nosferatu].
Chris Columbus’ production company worked with director Robert Eggers before on two movies—The Witch (2015) and The Lighthouse (2019). Now, they’ve made a new movie called Nosferatu. It’s a remake of an ancient silent movie from 1922.

Nosferatu came out on Christmas Day and did well at the box office. It made $40.3 million in just five days, much more than the $25 million people expected. Since the movie only cost $50 million, it almost earned back its budget in the first weekend!
Critics and audiences liked the movie too. It has an 86% score from critics and 75% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. This keeps Robert Eggers’ record of making movies that get great reviews.
The movie stars Bill Skarsgård as the vampire Count Orlok, along with Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Willem Dafoe.
Nosferatu is now showing in theaters!
