The producer revealed the new season of his Netflix true crime show at a screening for the second season on Monday.
Ryan Murphy has chosen Ed Gein as the next subject for Monster, with Charlie Hunnam set to play him. Hunnam, known for Sons of Anarchy, will portray Gein, the infamous serial killer and body snatcher, in the third season of the Netflix series Monster.
Ryan Murphy announced the new casting and plans to start filming next month before a Monday screening of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Each season of the Monster series will cover a different true-crime story, following the success of the 2022 season about Jeffrey Dahmer, which is now the third-most-watched English-language Netflix show ever.
Season two will focus on the Menendez brothers, who were convicted of killing their parents in 1989. Their case became very famous in the 1990s when it went to trial.
More Monster is on the way after Ryan Murphy finished his Netflix deal in 2023, following many big hits. Even though Murphy now works with the Walt Disney Company, he is still involved with his Netflix projects. He is writing the first episode of The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story for season two with his co-showrunner and executive producer, Ian Brennan.
No other casting news was shared on Monday, but Charlie Hunnam’s new role was announced a few months after he got another leading part. He is also set to star in Amazon’s Criminal.
All nine episodes of Season 2 of Monsters will be available on Netflix starting September 19.
