Daredevil won’t be appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day at least according to Charlie Cox.
The actor addressed the ongoing rumors during an interview with Phase Hero’s Brandon Davis following his Daredevil: Born Again appearance at New York Comic Con. Despite fan theories suggesting Matt Murdock would return in Tom Holland’s upcoming Spider-Man 4, Cox firmly denied any involvement.
I don’t know what (fans) know. I know that they all think I’m in ‘Spider-Man’ because I’m filming something in London, which I’m not.
Cox said when discussing Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
When Davis pressed further, asking, “Not in Spider-Man?” Cox reiterated, “I’m not in Spider-Man.”
The exchange comes after weeks of speculation fueled by Cox’s presence in London the same city where Brand New Day is currently filming and a possible slip-up during his NYCC stage conversation with Davis.
At the convention, Davis referenced Cox’s appearance in the trailer for the second season of Disney+’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, where Cox previously voiced Daredevil.
“Is there like a ‘No one else can play Daredevil’ rule?” Davis asked. “Because that was you in the ‘Spider-Man’ trailer earlier.”
“What?” Cox replied, seemingly caught off guard.
“Daredevil in ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,’” Davis clarified.
“Oh! That was earlier on,” Cox responded.
Fans online interpreted the moment as a possible hint that Cox was deflecting discussion about his rumored role in Brand New Day. Theories have persisted since Matt Murdock’s cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home and the confirmed casting of Jon Bernthal as The Punisher another key character from Cox’s Netflix Daredevil series in the new film.
Still, Cox maintained his stance. When asked if Daredevil would appear in Avengers, the actor replied, “No. I’m just concentrating on ‘DD’ right now.”
“I don’t know if I believe you, but we’ll wait and find out,” Davis said.
“Alright, we’ll see,” Cox replied. “You’ll see.”
