Channel 4 has achieved a major streaming milestone, emerging as the fastest-growing platform in the UK for September, according to exclusive data shared with RadioTimes.com.
Figures from BARB show that the broadcaster’s streaming viewer minutes surged by 36 percent year-on-year, marking the biggest growth among all leading streamers. In total, Channel 4 audiences watched over six billion minutes of content during the month a new record for the platform.
The impressive performance was driven by a mix of popular returning series and new hits, including The Great British Bake Off, The Inheritance, Made in Chelsea, Celebs Go Dating, Hollyoaks, Educating Yorkshire, Taskmaster, Four in a Bed, and Married at First Sight UK.
Four Channel 4 programs Educating Yorkshire, The Great British Bake Off, Taskmaster, and Married at First Sight UK ranked among the top seven most-watched shows among viewers aged 16 to 34 across all commercial streamers, collectively generating 599 million viewer minutes.
On October 7, Channel 4 set another milestone, notching 7.7 million app views in a single day, its highest ever. The broadcaster also maintained its status as the most upmarket commercial streamer, with 58 percent of its viewers in ABC1 households, and one of the youngest, with 23 percent of its audience aged 16 to 34.
Ian Katz, Channel 4’s Chief Content Officer, called the results a “super September,” crediting the platform’s creative mix of programming.
