Channel 4 viewers all shared the same reaction as they watched the first episode of The Jury: Murder Trial series two.
The BAFTA-winning show returned on Tuesday (August 26), focusing on the real-life case of Sophie, a young mother accused of stabbing her boyfriend Ryan in the chest with a kitchen knife. She insists it was self-defence, but is she telling the truth?
The trial has been recreated with actors using the original court transcripts, while a new jury of 12 everyday people must decide if they agree with the outcome of the original case. Local residents are following the proceedings at Liverpool Crown Court.

According to the Mirror, as the prosecution laid out their case, jurors quickly started forming different views based on the evidence.
Some believed the defendant may have been a victim of domestic abuse, while others weren’t persuaded. In the first series, the jury dealt with a case involving a husband who killed his wife but claimed it wasn’t murder — and viewers have since shared their disappointment.
After listening to the defence and prosecution’s cross-examinations, the jury retired to the deliberation room to decide on a verdict – but did it align with the original jury’s decision?
The second series followed the same format, though this time with only one jury rather than two.
Near the end of the first episode, actress Karen Henthorn took the stand as Sophie’s grandmother Mary, and viewers were quick to recognise her, posting their reactions on social media.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, one viewer posted: “Julie what are you doing here #TheJuryC4.”
Another added: “Julie from EastEnders turning up on #TheJuryC4! ! .”
A third jokingly wrote: “Excuse me get back to Nigel bet he’s gone missing now ffs #THEJURYC4.”
Karen recently returned to EastEnders as Julie Bates, coming back to look for her husband Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley), who is living with dementia. The show is airing across four consecutive nights.
The Jury: Murder Trial is available to watch and stream on Channel 4 from Tuesday, August 26 at 9pm.
