Taron Egerton, the star of Kingsman, has a new action hit streaming online. The Kingsman spy movies started with Kingsman: The Secret Service in 2014, directed by Matthew Vaughn. Egerton was only 25 years old when it came out, and he got to act alongside big Hollywood stars like Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Caine, Mark Strong, and Colin Firth. The movie was so popular that it got a sequel, The Golden Circle, in 2017, which helped make Egerton even more famous.
There was also a Kingsman prequel, but Egerton wasn’t in it. If it happens, fans are excited because he might return as Eggsy in a new Kingsman movie, The Blue Blood. But Egerton isn’t just known for Kingsman anymore. The series launched his career, and he’s done fantastic work since then, like playing Elton John in the biopic Rocketman, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. Carry-On is now a huge hit on Netflix and has broken an important record for 2024. The movie stars Taron Egerton as a TSA agent forced to let a dangerous package pass through airport security on Christmas Eve. It’s a holiday crime movie directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by T.J. Fixman. The cast also includes big names like Jason Bateman, Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler, Theo Rossi, Tonatiuh, and Logan Marshall-Green. The movie is getting pretty good reviews, with an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 52 critics.
Netflix shared that Carry-On not only made it onto their Global Top 10 Chart, but it also broke a record while doing so. The movie became the #1 movie on the chart for the week of December 9-15, with 42 million views. This makes it Netflix’s biggest opening of the year so far. Carry-On made it into the Top 10 in 93 countries and was #1 in places like the United States, Mexico, Japan, Singapore, Morocco, Australia, and New Zealand.
Carry-On broke this record in just three days! It came out on Netflix on December 13, and the record was set by December 15. One big reason for its success could be its perfect timing. Action movies usually do well on streaming, but this one also has a Christmas theme since it takes place on Christmas Eve.
With Christmas coming up, many people are in the mood for holiday movies, and Carry-On stood out among them. While other Christmas movies on Netflix are doing great, Carry-On has done even better!
