Simone Ashley says her Bridgerton costar Nicola Coughlan is focused on her work and ignores the mean comments from online trolls.
Ashley, 29, talked about the hurtful things people have said to Coughlan, 37, who plays Penelope Featherington on the Netflix show.
Ashley, who plays Lady Kate Bridgerton, told reporters at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival in Monaco on June 15 that her costar is doing well and staying positive despite the negativity.

Ashley said Coughlan has a bright future and believes her friend will keep succeeding.
“I really believe in her, and so does the world,” Ashley said. “I think Nicola is doing amazing.”
Ashley, who will star in the upcoming films This Tempting Madness and Picture This, called Coughlan
“a beautiful, strong, confident, and smart woman.”
She added, “Watching her on this press tour, spreading joy and inspiration to everyone, especially women, all over the world, inspires me too.”
The Little Mermaid actress said that Coughlan, who is friends with Taylor Swift, stands out not just as an actress, but as a person too.
“She’s also a really kind human being,” Ashley said. “I think that’s something everyone can relate to.”
Coughlan told People earlier this month that some online trolls wrongly thought the Bridgerton crew had digitally changed her waist size.
“They were like, ‘They photoshopped your waist,’ and I was like, ‘No, they did not,'” Coughlan said.
Coughlan explained that the costumes from the early 1800s, which she wears on the show, naturally affect how her waist looks.
“If you wear a corset long enough, your body adjusts to it,” Coughlan told the magazine. “Sometimes, designers put a corset on me, and I say, ‘You can go tight,’ and they’re surprised. But my body just goes, ‘Whew.'”

Coughlan also stood up for herself against a rude comment about her weight at a Bridgerton screening in Dublin, Ireland earlier this month.
During a Q&A session, someone told her she was “very brave” for doing nude scenes in the third season. Coughlan responded with grace and humor.
“You know, it’s hard because women with my body type and perfect breasts don’t see themselves on screen enough,” Coughlan said. “I’m proud of my body, and I hope you enjoy seeing it.”
Ashley told People that she and costar Jonathan Bailey supported Coughlan and Luke Newton (who plays Colin Bridgerton) when they became first-time leads on the show. “We wanted to make sure they had a friend.”
Ashley added, “Nicola and I would check in on each other. She’s such an inspiration to me, and I learned a lot from her. Sometimes, she even gave me advice.”
