Starz has officially canceled its hit drama series BMF after four seasons.
The final season premiered in June and wrapped on August 15 with its tenth episode, “Dreams Deferred.” The finale resolved much of the ongoing drama between the Flenory brothers but ended with a cliffhanger Big Meech (Demetrius Flenory Jr.) being arrested by Detective Von Bryant (Steve Harris). Since the show is based on the real-life Black Mafia Family, fans can look to history to see how events unfolded. Big Meech is portrayed by his real-life son, Demetrius Flenory Jr.
In March, reports suggested that a fifth season was still being considered, with insiders saying Starz was “pleased with Season 4 creatively” and eager to share “new action-packed episodes.”
Despite strong ratings, tensions reportedly escalated behind the scenes between executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and the real-life Big Meech after the latter’s 2024 release from prison. Jackson accused Flenory of being a federal informant a claim he denied and the feud deepened when Big Meech appeared in a promo video with rapper Rick Ross, Jackson’s longtime rival. Though sources say this dispute wasn’t the direct cause of cancellation, it created unease on set during the third and fourth seasons.
The more likely reason for the show’s end lies with Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch’s earlier comments about reducing long-running series costs by investing in new projects. As part of this shift, Starz has been concluding entries in its Power franchise while developing new titles like Power: Origins (a prequel ordered to series in July) and Power: Legacy (a present-day spinoff in development).
Back in 2023, Jackson announced plans to expand the BMF universe, calling it “BMF Immortal.” Sources said the network remained committed to collaborating with Jackson, whose G-Unit Film & Television has consistently delivered strong ratings. Although no BMF spinoffs have been confirmed, Jackson continues his partnership with Starz through Power and the newly greenlit British boxing drama Fightland, which was picked up in June.
The franchise also includes The BMF Documentary: Blowing Money Fast, released in 2022. A second season of the docuseries was ordered in June and will feature an exclusive interview with Terry Flenory, though its premiere date remains unannounced.
Season 4 of BMF followed the rise of brothers Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory, as they fought to preserve their empire amid law enforcement crackdowns and personal conflicts. The season explored how their shared dream and loyalty were tested, particularly after dramatic events in Mexico.
The ensemble cast included Russell Hornsby (Charles Flenory), Michole Briana White (Lucille Flenory), La La Anthony (Markisha), Steve Harris (Detective Bryant), and Myles Truitt (B-Mickie).
BMF was executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson through G-Unit Film & Television, alongside creator and Detroit native Randy Huggins, showrunner Heather Zuhlke, and executive producers Anthony Wilson, Damione Macedon, and Raphael Jackson Jr. The series was produced in partnership with Lionsgate Television for Starz.
