Halloween may have been quiet for theaters, but Universal and Blumhouse’s Black Phone 2 gave the industry something to celebrate. The horror sequel officially crossed the $100 million mark worldwide, becoming one of 2025’s standout box office success stories.
Over the Halloween weekend, Black Phone 2 earned $8 million domestically, finishing second behind Regretting You ($8.1 million). Despite a soft overall frame the worst of the year so far the film’s milestone is a major win for Blumhouse. To date, Scott Derrickson’s sequel has grossed $61.4 million domestically and $43.2 million internationally, bringing its global total to $104.7 million.
The overall U.S. box office generated less than $49 million during the Halloween frame, with newcomers Bugonia ($4.8 million) and animated feature Stitch Head ($2.1 million) failing to draw crowds.
A continuation of the 2022 hit, Black Phone 2 follows Finn (Mason Thames) and Gwen (Madeleine McGraw) as they confront lingering trauma after their terrifying encounter with The Grabber (Ethan Hawke). When Gwen’s strange dreams resurface, the siblings head to a winter camp linked to their past—only to face a new supernatural threat.
For Blumhouse, the success of Black Phone 2 marks a much-needed rebound following several box office disappointments, including Wolf Man, The Woman in the Yard, Drop, and M3GAN 2.0. Produced on a $30 million budget, the sequel has proven to be a strong investment and reaffirmed the studio’s dominance in the horror genre.
Whether Derrickson, C. Robert Cargill, Joe Hill, or Ethan Hawke will return for a third installment remains to be seen. In the meantime, Blumhouse is eyeing another potential hit with Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, set for release in early December.
Adding to the celebration, Mason Thames also headlines How to Train Your Dragon, currently the No. 1 film in the country and boasting $636 million globally cementing him as one of Hollywood’s rising stars.
Black Phone 2 is now playing in theaters nationwide.
