Spotify announced on Monday (Aug. 19) that Billie Eilish is now the top artist on their platform, passing The Weeknd.
The Weeknd (whose real name is Abel Tesfaye) cheered for Billie Eilish when she was getting close to breaking his record last week. He shared a tweet on Aug. 15 with heart, prayer, and line graph emojis, saying “Let’s go!” when Eilish was just under 1 million listeners away from becoming Spotify’s top artist.
In June 2024, Billie Eilish became the youngest and third artist ever to reach over 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify, following The Weeknd and Taylor Swift. Out of her 82 songs, eight have joined Spotify’s Billions Club, meaning they’ve been streamed over a billion times.
