The hit ITV reality show Big Brother has sparked outrage, receiving more than 600 complaints to Ofcom following a series of controversial on-air moments that left both viewers and housemates stunned.
Two episodes in particular have drawn the majority of complaints one involving Caroline Monk and another centering on a heated exchange between Feyisola and Cameron B.
A total of 398 viewers complained about the October 7 episode in which Caroline Monk misgendered housemate Zelah Glasson during a house game. The incident, which shocked co-stars, led to Caroline being given a formal warning from Big Brother.
During the exchange, Caroline referred to the openly trans man by saying, “She’s a girl!” Her comment came after she asked pansexual housemate Nancy which person she fancied most, suggesting she choose someone she could “carry on civilisation” with.
When Nancy responded that she would pick Zelah, Caroline repeated, “She’s a girl!” Her housemates were left horrified, attempting to stop her from continuing, but she added, “But you haven’t got a willy. Is that really bad?”
Big Brother addressed the behaviour directly, saying:
Caroline, Big Brother thinks that your language in these instances was offensive and unacceptable and cannot permit you to use language in a way that could cause offence to your fellow Housemates and the viewing public.
Caroline admitted fault, telling Big Brother she agreed with their assessment. She was warned that any further comments of that nature could lead to removal from the house.
The misgendering incident left Zelah visibly shocked and resulted in Caroline’s isolation from the rest of the group.
Meanwhile, a further 261 complaints were logged over an explosive argument between Feyisola and Cameron B during the live eviction episode broadcast the previous Friday.
An Ofcom spokesperson confirmed, “The majority of complaints related to Feyisola’s behaviour towards Cameron.”
The confrontation escalated when 25-year-old Cameron confronted Feyisola during a private chat she was having with other housemates. The row ended with Cameron attempting to apologise before storming off, shouting, “Bulls*.”**
“So do you think I’ve come in here to cause a stir?” Cameron asked.
“I don’t care. Take him away please,” Feyisola replied.
Following the clash, Feyisola called a house meeting with her closest friends excluding Cameron B, Marcus, Tate, Caroline, and Elsa.
The escalating tensions and controversial remarks have turned the Big Brother house into a lightning rod for viewer backlash, with the show now firmly under Ofcom’s spotlight.
